Top 10 JLo Moments of 2014!

2014 was a big and busy year for Jennifer Lopez! As always, at the end of the year, I like to take a trip down memory lane and list some of my favorite moments from the past year. Jennifer has accomplished so much this year.  Even though I’ve been a fan for 15 years, she continues to surprise and inspire me with her drive, her determination, and her ability to forge ahead through adversity.

It was way too difficult to rank them, so here are my top 10 moments, in no particular order:

jen vevo

Vevo Certifications

Earlier this year, Jennifer was presented with five Vevo certification awards for music videos with over 100 million views: “Live It Up”, “Dance Again”, “Goin In”, “I’m Into You”, and “On The Floor”. “Papi” passed the 100 million mark shortly after filming, and Jennifer also received Vevo certification credit this year with “Adrenalina” and “We Are One”. Jennifer is well on her way to another Vevo certification with “Booty”, and “On The Floor” is still the most watch music video by a female of all time, with over 800 million views.

Adrenalina 1

“Adrenalina” vs “We Are One”

Always an overachiever, Jennifer had not one, but two World Cup songs this year! “We Are One (Ole Ola)” by Pitbull feat JLo and Claudia Leitte was the official World Cup song and “Adrenalina” by Wisin feat JLo and Ricky Martin was Univision’s official World Cup song. “Adrenalina” and “We Are One” both landed in the top 5 most watched Latin music videos this year, with 246 million and 323 million views, respectively.

Billions of people watched as Jennifer performed”We Are One” with Pitbull and Claudia Leitte live at the World Cup opening ceremony. “Adrenalina” won the battle in the US, though, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Latin Songs chart, #1 on the Latin Digital Songs chart, and #2 on the Latin Streaming chart. It spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, tying the record on that chart! On the year-end charts, “Adrenalina” came in at #9 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, #10 on the Latin Digital Songs chart, #11 on the Latin Airplay Songs chart, and #17 on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

American Idol Judges Perform Together

It has often been rumored, but this year, Jennifer and her fellow Idol judges performed together during the American Idol finale! The trio sang Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” and “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac. Jennifer sounded great and looked adorable playing her tambourine. You could tell they had a great time, and we hope there will be a repeat performance in 2015! Jennifer also performed “First Love” that night. The performances that night were two completely different sides to Jennifer, which was fun to see.

A.K.A.

In June, Jennifer released her long-awaited 10th album, A.K.A.! The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s R&B Albums and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

JLovers were spoiled this musical era, with music videos and teasers for “Same Girl”, “I Luh Ya Papi”, “First Love”, “Booty” (x 2!), “Worry No More”, and “Emotions”. There were shows, concerts, interviews, autographed albums, not to mention a free concert for fans in the Bronx! We were able to check out the album a week before it was released, which was pretty epic! A.K.A. showcases the many sides of Jennifer, but especially her strength, heartbreak, and vulnerability.

true love

True Love

Jennifer’s first book, True Love, was released November 4. True Love explores the transformative two-year journey of how, as an artist and a mother, Jennifer confronted her greatest challenges, identified her biggest fears, and ultimately emerged a stronger person than she’s ever been. I really enjoyed reading it, and it’s definitely a must-have for any JLover. It felt very authentic and honest, and it was very interesting to read her reflections on certain events in her life.

True Love debuted at #5 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list and hit all three New York Times lists in its category, including the bestseller list for nonfiction e-books (#7) and the nonfiction list that tracks combined e-book/physical book sales (#7). Amor Verdadero, the Spanish version, debuted at #1 on the Spanish-language nonfiction hardcover chart.

Jennifer’s Amazing Abs

Just another day at the gym for Jennifer, right? Wrong! Jennifer’s amazing abs got worldwide headlines in October, and with good reason. Jennifer is perfect gymspiration for 2015.

JLo BBMAs

Billboard Icon

In May, Jennifer was honored with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, and I was lucky enough to attend the show! The Icon Award is the BBMA’s ultimate honor. The award recognizes lifetime achievement and an artist’s remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music. Jennifer was the fourth artist and the first woman to win the award.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Jennifer performed “We Are One (Ole Ola)” with Pitbull and Claudia Leitte, as well as “First Love”, before picking up her award. Jennifer delivered a great speech, thanking her family, friends, and fans. It was a very special moment to watch in person, and especially to have the opportunity to congratulate Jennifer personally after the show. It was a huge honor for her, and something that I’ll never forget!

Jennifer also graced the cover of Billboard and here’s a bonus photo, just because this was one of my favorite shoots of the year. Plus, the article was in-depth and informative. What more could a JLover ask for? You can check out the shoot and article in the gallery!

Bronx Concert

In June, Jennifer put on a free 90 minute show for a crowd of 25,000 fans in her home town of the Bronx! It was a brand new show with special performances that included appearances by Fat Joe, Ja Rule, and French Montana. Jennifer performed songs from AKA, as well as old favorites. She really changed things up, though, with performances of Selena’s “No Me Queda Mas”, Barbra Streisand’s “My Man”, and Diana Ross’ “Theme From Mahogany”. If that wasn’t enough, she also premiered “Stressin” feat Fat Joe at the show!

Harper’s Bazaar Russia

This was one of my favorite shoots of the year! Jennifer looks amazingly regal in this photo shoot from Harper’s Bazaar Russia. It’s a gorgeous and refreshing shoot, unlike anything she’s ever done before. You can see the photos in the gallery!

Google+ Hangout

This was one of my favorite moments of the year! Jennifer hosted a Google Hangout when A.K.A. was released and answered the top fan questions. Fans got answers to burning questions, such as the status of the “Dance Again” film (now premiering on HBO December 31). Jennifer answered our question, as well!  Jennifer was honest and open and it was a great experience. You should definitely do it again soon, Jennifer!

Jennifer has a very busy 2015 coming up, with “American Idol”, “The Boy Next Door”, and “Lila & Eve” premiering in January. “Home”, an animated film, will be released in March, and Jennifer has a new TV show, “Shades of Blue” lined up for the Fall. Jennifer always has a few surprises up her sleeve, so we can’t wait to see what else 2015 has in store!

Thanks to all of our visitors, members, and contributors for a great 2014!

Our Exclusive A.K.A. Review!!

Jennifer Lopez’s long-anticipated album, A.K.A. is one week away!! We got a chance to listen to the album before the big release. Here are our track-by-track thoughts.

A.K.A. feat T.I. – From the opening beat and vocalizations, it is clear that, as Jennifer says, “this is not the girl you used to know”. A.K.A. is a hard-hitting, bass-heavy track with a fed up Jennifer singing to an ex. “It took you too long, to find out, what you want, right now.”

First Love – All of you should know all about First Love and own it on iTunes!

Never Satisfied – We got a sneak peek of Never Satisfied when Jennifer performed it in Dubai. The studio version puts a different spin on the song. It is a bit darker and fits really well with the rest of the album. It is rock-tinged and a different sound for Jennifer, but it really works. Jennifer sounds great vocally, as well. “I’m never satisfied, Honey, my appetite, is keeping me up at night, I’m going crazy, for more of your love.”

I Luh Ya Papi feat French Montana – Again, you guys should know all about this one! If you haven’t already, buy it on iTunes!

Acting Like That feat Iggy Azalea – This is an understated bass heavy mid-tempo. Don’t let the understated beat fool you, though. Jennifer goes hard lyrically, warning her lover, “Why you acting like that, you gon’ miss me when I’m gone”. This is probably one of the most anticipated songs from the album, since it’s Jennifer’s first collab with a female rapper. Lyrically, it’s the perfect song for them to collaborate on.

Emotions – This sounds like one of Jennifer’s most personal songs ever. “I tried to give you all my time, babe. But it never meant a thing to you, so don’t you call my name.” The lyrics and Jennifer’s vocals are standouts here.

So Good – This is the kind of song you listen to in the car with your windows down. It’s a feel good track about thriving after a break up with punchy and, what we suspect are some autobiographical, lyrics. “I bet you think I need you. I’m telling you I don’t, you lost your mind. I used to be so see-through, but now I never let you on my mind”

Let It Be Me – This is a stripped down ballad backed by a Spanish guitar. Lyrically, it showcases Jennifer’s hopeless romanticism. “Let it be me that will anchor your soul. Until the clouds fall out of the sky and the snow falls down in July, let it be me that you think of.” If Jennifer recorded Como Ama Una Mujer in English, we think it would sound like this. It really plays to her strengths as a singer, and it is definitely one of the highlights for us!!

Worry No More feat Rick Ross – There are a lot of layers and interesting echo and auto tune effects on this one. Rick Ross was the perfect choice for this song. “Imma always hold it down for ya, look at how I move around for ya.”

Booty feat Pitbull – Jennifer closes out the standard edition of the album with this up-tempo party song. Don’t be mistaken, however, because this is very different from Jennifer and Pit’s other collabs. It’s a fun song with a bit of an Egyptian vibe. There are a couple of sections where Jennifer could perform a dance break and show everyone how it’s done. “Have you seen her on the dance floor, she got the boom, shake the room.”

The Deluxe edition features 4 additional songs – TENS feat Jack Mizrahi, Troubeaux feat Nas, Expertease (Ready Set Go), and Same Girl feat French Montana.

Tens feat Jack Mizrahi – This is definitely a different track for Jennifer, with lyrics like, “Where my glam queens at, where my real queens at?” and, “We serve, bitch, We don’t work, bitch.” It’s a lot of talky-singing and some Spanish thrown in. You’ll either love it or hate it, but it’s a fun track.

Troubeaux feat Nas – This is a catchy mid-tempo where Jennifer sings about being attracted to a guy she knows will be trouble. Because of the spelling, it’s probably pretty easy to figure out who this song is about! Someone from Team JLo also gets a shout out during Nas’ rap. “I deep down know I, should be good, I ain’t blind, you’re the kind of guy that always got all these girls running after you”.

Expertease (Ready Set Go) – This is one of the catchiest songs on the album. Jennifer starts off singing low, almost in a kind of growl before jumping into the chorus. “Let me show my expertise, I’m an expert tease and you know it” Another highlight!

Same Girl feat French Montana – The solo version was, of course, a buzz single released earlier this year. French adds a verse at the beginning and near the end.

In a nutshell: This is definitely one of our favorite JLo albums!! Jennifer has talked a lot about returning to her roots and we think she really achieved that. It is a classic JLo album with all of the different elements we all love to hear from her, but with a few twists and surprises. The album showcases a lot of different sides of Jennifer – her hopeless romanticism, vulnerability, but also a lot of strength. Vocally and musically it seems like Jennifer really pushed herself and did some different things on this album, while still retaining her core elements. JLovers, you will love it!

Stefan’s highlights: So Good, Let It Be Me, Booty, Acting Like That, Expertease

Heather’s highlights: A.K.A., Never Satisfied, Emotions, Let It Be Me, Expertease

Can’t wait any longer? You can listen to 30 second snippets of the standard edition tracks here:
