Judges add one to top 24 on ‘Idol’

LOS ANGELES — Good news was heard by 25 — not just 24 — singers on American Idol.

After the “Hollywood Week” and Las Vegas performance rounds, judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler narrowed the field from 42 contestants to 24 semifinalists on the Thursday installment of the Fox singing competition — but they apparently cut too many.

Idol host Ryan Seacrest revealed at the end that “The judges felt compelled to reinstate another guy.” He teased that Jermaine Jones, Johnny Keyser, Richie Law or David Leathers would join the other semifinalists next week.

The semifinalists unveiled on Thursday: Deandre Brackensick, 17, of San Jose, Calif.; Adam Brock, 27, Washington, Pa.; Hollie Cavanaugh, 18, McKinney, Texas; Hallie Day, 24, Baltimore; Eben Franckewitz, 15, Loveland, Ohio; Skylar Laine, 18, Brandon, Miss.; Chase Likens, 21, Point Pleasant, W.Va.; Shannon Magrane, 16, Tampa, Fla.; Aaron Marcellus, 27, Atlanta; and Jeremy Rosado, 19, Valrico, Fla.

Those announced on Wednesday: Baylie Brown, 22, Krum, Texas; Colton Dixon, 20, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Reed Grimm, 26, Ellsworth, Wis.; Jen Hirsh, 25, Agoura Hills, Calif.; Haley Johnsen, 23, Beaverton, Ore.; Joshua Ledet, 19, Los Angeles; Phillip Phillips, 21, Leesburg, Ga.; Jessica Sanchez, 16, San Diego; Chelsea Sorrell, 23, Stokesdale, N.C.; Elise Testone, 28, Charleston, S.C.; Erika Van Pelt, 26, South Kingstown, R.I.; plus Creighton Fraker, 28; Heejun Han, 22; and Brielle Von Hugel, 17, all New York.

The men will perform on Tuesday and the women on Wednesday.

'American Idol': Adam Lambert, James Durbin, Daughtry Among Alums Slated to Perform This Season (Exclusive)

Joining the trifecta of rockers on the season 11 schedule: last year's runner-up and newly minted country star Lauren Alaina.

In a tradition that goes back almost as long as American Idol has been on the air, several fan favorites from seasons past will perform on the show this year as a new group of hopefuls look on and marvel at their potential future.

Among the alums slated to appear are season 8's Adam Lambert, season 10 runner-up and newly minted country star Lauren Alaina and fourth place finalist James Durbin and season 5's Chris Daughtry, who will debut his new single from the album Break The Spell, "Outta My Head," on the March 15 episode.

Other than Daughtry, no word yet on dates or specific songs but each of the beloved Idol grads have albums to promote -- Alaina is still working her debut, Wildflower, which has sold 248,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan; Durbin's Memories of a Beautiful Disaster is also performing well, having moved 92,000 albums since its November release.

Lambert is gearing up for his highly anticipated second album, Trespassing, currently slated for a Spring release.
