J.Lo Gets Emotional Over Love, Leaves Stage In Tears: Watch

Jennifer Lopez felt the weight of her turbulent love life during an acoustic performance of "If You Had My Love" Saturday night.

Mike Doughty Opens 'Book of Drugs,' Says J.Lo & Music Thieves Saved His Life

Doughty shares his thoughts about his upcoming memoir, his album, how Jennifer Lopez and fans who stole his music saved his life, and the contentment that comes with being in charge of your own career.

At this time last year, Jennifer Lopez was still licking her wounds from a rough 2010. She kicked off the year with a poorly received performance of single "Louboutins," got dropped by Epic Records and failed to relaunch her film career with the underperforming romantic comedy "The Back-Up Plan."

Cut to this month, and Lopez is everywhere. She performed a medley of her hits on the American Music Awards (AMAs); she's in virtually every commercial break on broadcast TV, working with Fiat, Venus, Kohl's and L'Oreal EverSleek; she's in print ads for Gucci and Tous jewelry; and she's back on the Billboard charts with singles like "On the Floor" and "I'm Into You" from "Love?", her first Island Records album. And Monday (Dec. 12), she appeared in an all-new TV spot for Harman Kardon's home theater systems. And it's all thanks to her gig as a judge on a little juggernaut called "American Idol," which helped successfully reposition Lopez as a multifaceted entertainer for the masses.

Lopez helped the show emerge from a ratings slump (along with fellow new judge Steven Tyler) and propped up her own career in the process. The video for " On the Floor" premiered to much fanfare during "American Idol" and quickly racked up hundreds of millions of views on YouTube and Vevo, enough to rank as the third-most-watched music video of all time (as of November). The single also peaked at No. 3 and became her highest-charting hit since 2002's "Jenny From the Block." Even her film career has been revived, with Lopez set to appear in three movies next year. Also on the horizon is another music competition series (in partnership with "Idol" founder Simon Fuller and Marc Anthony), "Q'Viva!," set to air on Univision and other networks in early 2012.

But with her newfound ubiquity comes some backlash. The much-delayed "Love?" received poor reviews and dropped off the Billboard 200 in September. An early commercial for Fiat featuring a trailer for her "Papi" video was dubbed by auto-marketing expert Peter DeLorenzo as "quite possibly the worst automotive spot of the last decade, hands down," while Fiat's onstage appearance during Lopez's AMAs performance drew ire from critics as "shameless" and "embarrassing."

Fiat CEO Olivier Francois, however, stands by the campaign, citing a 500% increase in traffic to the brand's YouTube channel from August to September after Lopez's ads started airing, as well as a 47% increase in unaided awareness of the Fiat brand from April to October. "Our goal is to continue to increase the level of awareness for our brand so customers know that the Fiat 500 is the only vehicle in the U.S. that combines Italian style, modern technology and fuel efficiency at an affordable price. Our partnership with Jennifer Lopez, in conjunction with multiple marketing actions, is helping to do that," Francois says.

But at least one brand hasn't been riding Lopez's post-"Idol" coattails. L'Oreal, which has been working with her since 1999, actually filmed its current EverSleek campaign with Lopez in July 2010, just weeks before she was confirmed as a judge on the show. The brand saw an increase in sales and market share during its 2011 fiscal year, citing Lopez as a key driver of its performance.

J-Lo signs as brand ambassador for Harman's flagship audio line

TV ads featuring the pop singer will broadcast in the UAE soon

Dubai: Double Oscar winner A.R. Rahman and the pop-band Maroon 5 are striking all the right notes as brand ambassadors for Harman, the premium audio-video company. But now the heat is being turned up with the signing on of Jennifer Lopez as role model for the company's flagship audio brand, harman/kardon.

A new television campaign featuring J-Lo begins in the next few days in the UAE and other key regional markets and will be followed up by committed runs at the cinemas, in print and on digital platforms. The TV commercial has just aired in Europe.

"It's the first time we are having a brand ambassador for the flagship, and it comes with the tagline of ‘beautiful sound'," said Amit Malani, president of Harman International's Middle East operations. "And I can't think of any artist who fits that tagline more than Jennifer does."

Malani dismisses any scepticism that Lopez's recent career trajectory may not have been all that high profile.  (Heather's note: WTF are they smoking?)

"She's certainly bouncing back and has had two recent singles which did extremely well," he added. "She's there on American Idol and getting back into the limelight. As far our brand is concerned, all of this creates a lot of synergies."

Endorsements

Lopez has in the past featured in ads for her eponymous range of fragrances as well as for the 2012 model year Fiat 500.

The Lopez association should run for the better part of the next year and will run parallel to the endorsements from A.R. Rahman and Maroon 5 which are for JBL, the high-end audio products brand owned by Harman International. More celebrity tie-ins for JBL will be announced in the first quarter.

"JBL has one of the biggest legacies in the audio industry - from homes to concerts - that we felt was not being properly leveraged," said Malani.

"The endorsements with ARR and Maroon 5 are part of that correction and more artistes will come on board."

Between harman/kardon and JBL, they command 62 per cent of the audio-video receiver market in the UAE for units retailing at Dh2,000 and more.

For 2012, Harman's regional operation — which is also responsible for chain of stores under the Harman House branding — is looking to push the ad and promotional spends to one per cent of its total revenues. Coupled with the campaigns run by its distributors, the total promotional spend would come to 3.5 per cent of the gross.

For the current financial year which runs through June, the regional operations is on course to achieve revenues of $300 million, which compares with the $229 million earned last year. Retail makes up 17 per cent of the gross and the rest comes through the distribution channels.

Plans are in place to add more locations in Abu Dhabi and in Qatar to add to the current network of 10 Harman House stores.

October and November provided exceptionally strong numbers, which was aided by the sustained demand for the iPad and Samsung's Galaxy tablets which Harman House sells.

"December so far has not provided the numbers that were expected and it could be that shoppers are preferring a cautious approach with all the bad economic news in Europe," said Malani.

"But the last 10 days of the year could still offer a bump in sales and so should the coming Dubai Shopping Festival in January."

Jennifer looks beautiful on the commercial as usual. I think she should tell Benny stop dude, I am an artist not a commercial personality.
As I told you, before, she is his money making machine, the more she works the more money he makes too.Image

From Harman Kardon's Youtube channel:

Jennifer Lopez and Will.i.am have created a new soundtrack for this second Harman Kardon Beautiful Sound commercial that is making its world debut on the 54th annual Grammy awards on Sunday, February 12th. This is also the launch of the Beautiful Sound campaign in the US. Since 1954 Harman Kardon has delivered high performance audio including the very first stereo receiver. Since then Harman Kardon has become a leading force in audio solutions for your home, for your car, for your computer and wherever sound matters. Product such as the Harman Kardon Soundsticks III seen at the end of this spot, and BDS are synonymous with Harman Kardon's commitment to delivering great sound without sacrificing great design. Jennifer and Will.i.am appreciated great sound and have delivered an amazing audio track to the commercial directed by Martin Campbell, one of the world's renowned filmmakers.
