I agree. If I'm not mistaken J.Hud recieved critical acclaim for her performance (although I never seen the film myself but I've seen clips). And Beyonce.. well.. I heard she did OK/Good, but it wasn't phenomenal. The girl can be in the game for 30yrs, but if the acting chops aren't on point then she won't be nominated. It's pretty straight forward.

Anyway, I think Jen def. had what it took in the 90s. When she took her acting career alot more serious. These days it's hard to differentiate her real life persona from her movie characters. I mean every film (for the most part in the 00s) the girl is rocking lip gloss, her signature glowing makeup, and honey/brown extensions for gods sake! I feel like I'm watching "J.Lo" and I'm only watching the film for the "J.Lo Experience" (and no it's not because I'm a fan), as oppose to watching it because it will be a good film and she will play a great role. Perhaps, that's why I love her music career over her films? I never really got into her film career, but I will say that til today her best film is still "Selena". Lol

Just watch at the end of El Cantante movie when she talking about her dead husband when she smoking a cigaret (Look at her eyes and her hand) you will know if she a good actress or not

It's all about chance, time and focus  

mmHmm, critics and the film industry as a whole will need to change their perspective of her as an actress, she would need to leave the romantic comedies aside and purely focus on her acting (which would mean no music for a long period *cry* as well as her other projects). Not that she should have to do this in order to be taken seriously, but it wouldn't hurt for her to star initially in a smaller role to 'tease' the audience with her feature alongside someone like Leonardo DiCaprio. Lastly, it would be good to see her involved roles where she's given a makeover so she doesn't look so much like 'JLo' if you what I mean...

Jennifer herself has talked about how her music career makes it harder for her as an actress. Discussing that isn't hating, it's being realistic. 

It would be exciting to see Jen take on a role with a different accent, I'd love to see that!

ofcourse,, cuz she choose always the same roles, beauty girl fell in love with some guy.. if she chose more realistic dramas or thriller roles instead at lest half of her rom coms she  would be already taken more seriously.. its up to her....not her music career and commercials..

That would help the cause, of course, but I still think her music career affects her odds. Is it still possible? Of course, but it's harder for her because of it. In general, actors aren't as exposed as musicians. You see their personalities in interviews. With music, you can judge them based on songs, videos, performances, plus musicians are way more exposed than actors. With someone like Jen, you already have that preconceived notion of who she is based on everywhere you see her and everything you hear or read about her. So it's hard to differentiate JLo from whoever she is on screen. JMO.

Maybe she'll win an Emmy for Q'Viva?

yes that s the point.. but generally music is not affecting her acting skills and choosing roles...
you see, we all have a perception of jen  actrees most known for her romantic comedies, where she s not too much different than she really is, and that s the point.. So in conclusion people need to see her as someone here said tottaly different in her movies, to actually forget that her character is actually j.lo and here she wins.. choose some evil bitch , histerical, crazy woman, or totaly devastated , destroyed character, and people will noticed her acting , and change their perception as an bad actrees,, so maybe oscar people will too..and music will not affect her movie career if she actually diffferenitate her movie persona drastically from J:LO

I get what you are saying, but I don't think that prior to AI most people agreed with us that Jen was cute and sweet and funny. Not to mention that she's done other kinds of movies besides RCs, anyway - EC, Bordertown, AUL.

I re-watched Bordertown last night.

The script is sooooo bad.

Maya Zapata stole the show.

And Jen's acting was OK/good, but I really don't like it when she whispers her lines (her argument with Martin Sheen)!

And when Antonio Banderas (who was terrible in this movie) told her that 5000 women were murdered, she was like "5000... " instead of "5000!!!???? "

She still did an amazing job - it was a very challenging role, but she really needs a good script and a good director.

I still think it's a good movie though. I'm still pissed that it went straight-to-DVD in most countries.

yeah bordertown is ok.. but they showed her ass too much..hehe
el cantante is her best drama in years..

I haven't seen Bordertown in forever, but the 5,000 thing would be the direction, no? I remember Jen talking about Enough and the scene where Mitch slaps her. She said she wanted to play it differently than what the director wanted, so she gave him options. I think she said he used his original idea, and she preferred another version. Anyone remember this?


Controversial isn't good for her other careers, so I don't see that happening anytime soon.
