Ok one more month for the VMA's and 2 big chances that Jen will be there: 1. It's in Miami (she loves Miami) and 2. She's nominated for 4 awards.:D

Green Day, Gwen, Missy Nab Most Nominations For MTV Video Music Awards

There's really no substitute for experience. Such is the lesson to be gleaned from the crop of nominees for the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, where familiar faces like Gwen Stefani, Missy Elliott and seasoned punks Green Day lead the pack.

Nominees were unveiled in Miami on Monday morning (July 25), where it was also revealed that de facto Miami mayor P. Diddy will serve as host when the VMAs return to the city on Sunday, August 28.

(Click here for the complete 2005 Video Music Awards Nominees list.)

Green Day head into the awards show with the most nominations, earning eight in all, including nods for Video of the Year, Best Group Video and Viewer's Choice (the dust has yet to clear in the online voting for this year's Viewer's Choice nominees, but Green Day have already secured a spot there in the early rounds of voting). The bulk of the group's nods, including the night's top honor, came for their "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" clip, while their "American Idiot" is in the running for Best Art Direction.

The group will face off against Coldplay ("Speed of Sound"), Kanye West ("Jesus Walks"), Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell ("Drop It Like It's Hot") and Gwen Stefani ("Hollaback Girl") for Video of the Year. Stefani's "Hollaback" clip will also vie for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Choreography, while her video for "What You Waiting For?" is up for Best Art Direction and Best Editing, earning the No Doubt frontwoman six nominations in all.

Missy Elliott's latest oddball offering, "Lose Control," also turned up six noms, including Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Dance Video and Breakthrough Video. U2 also found themselves near the front of the pack with five nominations, while Coldplay, Jennifer Lopez, the Killers and My Chemical Romance each earned four. Ciara, John Legend, Kanye, the White Stripes, 50 Cent, Amerie, Destiny's Child, Eminem, Foo Fighters, Game, Gorillaz, Kelly Clarkson, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, Shakira, Simple Plan, Snoop and Usher all also earned multiple nominations.

But the night's surprising nomination magnet may well be Eric Roberts. The veteran actor ("Star 80," "The Pope of Greenwich Village") can claim at least a little piece of six nominations thanks to his work in the Killers' "Mr. Brightside" and Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together."

The night's hottest undercard bout could well be for Best New Artist in a Video, where brand-new heavyweights Ciara ("1,2 Step"), Game ("Dreams"), John Legend ("Ordinary People"), the Killers ("Mr. Brightside") and My Chemical Romance ("Helena") will duke it out.

More announcements regarding performers and presenters are expected in the coming weeks.

Catch all the sizzlin', star-packed VMA action direct from Miami on August 28. MTV News' preshow kicks things off at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the big show at 8 p.m.

|I I was afraid of "Lose Control" or "Tocuh" to be nominated for anything in the same category as Jen.

i want her to win grammy awards not mtv awards! an artist winning an mtv award should not be that proud, coz its not a sign of how good an artist is. grammys, oscars, billboards and the world music awards are the ones that matters.

God! when will Jennifer win a grammy? |I haters keep on saying Jennifer cant sing thats why she dont have any grammys and its the same thing with acting, she doesnt have any oscar too... tsk! |I

This is going to be so exciting. Especially since Diddy is hosting. I think the best editing and director in a video will be announced before the show.

Jen was on the top 10 on TRL for a long time so the video was not a flop at all, and it even hit #1 a few times on TRL too.

The song is not a flop, but it's not a smash either, it's a hit though and charted higher than Mariah's first single.

I hope it doesnt get snubbed like "I'm Glad", I have a feeling it will, but you never know. I would be happy if Jen won just one award out of the four.

Haters actually thought Jen's "Rebirth" era was going to be like Mariah's "Charmbracelets", "Glitter", Janet's "Damita Jo", Toni's "More Than A Woman" eras. The VMA nominations prove that "Rebirth" is not a sad flop like the other artists I just mentioned, geez even Miss Ashanti didn't get any recognition, and Jen even got more nominations than Kelly Clarkson or other artists that had a good year.

I hope Jen gets to perform "Get Right" on MTV VMA's and then I guess medley it with "Cherry Pie"|I but the thought of Jen performing anything at the VMA's is good enough for me.

The only thing I'm mad about is Missy Elliot. She's cool and all but every year she gets like the most nominations. Her videos are good but other people deserve to be nominated too.

I think Missy deserves all the nominations possible, her videos are always crazy, no matter what, if u walk into a room while her videos are playing on t.v. u will stop and watch it, that's the effect her videos have on people.

I think Jen will win at least one of her categories, Being up against Ciara though is hard especially for best Dance video, but she may just pull it off.

Big ups, Jen!

I read elsewhere that the artists that are going to perform are:

Kelly Clarkson :x
Kanye West :x
Shakira :D yay

Mariah is rumored but you all know how her fans like to rumor that she's performing in every award show possible.

Gwen and Ciara have more of a chance of performing live than Jen because of their success, but I really really hope that Jen performs!

I kno, Jen can atleast perform her medley of hits. I mean singers that have been around for 6 or 7 years in the music business like that can perform their hits in medleys and be accepted. kinda like how janet jackson did at the superbowl, except... her performance didnt work for the better. lol

I would love a peformance with usher! Imagen if they did "Get Right" and "Caught Up" together, they both have a jazzy feel to it, and both would just light up the stage. Not to mention that it would prove Usher is not mad at Jenny.

im ABSOLUTELY UPSET because GET RIGHT wasnt nominated for BEST FEMALE VIDEO or VIDEO OF THE YEAR

those are the categories that i really want a nomination on.

seriously, here's how i see the winners will be.

1. Best Dance Video
Ciara, "1, 2 Step"
Destiny's Child, "Lose My Breath"
Jennifer Lopez, "Get Right"
Missy Elliott w/Ciara & Fat Man Scoop, "Lose Control"
Shakira w/Alejandro Sanz, "La Tortura"

i really want jen to nail this, but she have some good competition here especially from missy, and dc. let's not forget ciara's video which i cant really configure the concept of her video. honestly, i dont know with shakira, but jen's video is way better than those nominated

my prediction - jennifer (alternate: missy or dc)

2. Best Choreography In A Video
Amerie, "1 Thing"
Gwen Stefani, "Hollaback Girl"
Jennifer Lopez, "Get Right"
Missy Elliott w/Ciara & Fat Man Scoop, "Lose Control"
My Chemical Romance, "Helena"

for this one, amerie leads on this one (for me) but i really dont know with the video. lose control has the wierdest choreo as far as i know. and there's nothing special in hollaback girl

prediction - amerie (alternate - jennifer or missy)

3. Best Direction In A Video

Green Day, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Director: Samuel Bayer)
Jennifer Lopez, "Get Right" (Director: Francis Lawrence/Diane Martel)
Missy Elliott w/Ciara & Fat Man Scoop, "Lose Control" (Director: Dave Meyers/Missy Elliott)
White Stripes, "Blue Orchid" (Director: Floria Sigismondi)
U2, "Vertigo" (Director: Alex & Martin)

there's no clear winner here for me .im sure jen will do good here, but if she wont, the difference is very little. francis did a great job with get right. just look at how she handled a complicated material. dave meyers is great also, but sentimental band u2 can snatch it.

4. Best Editing In A Video
Coldplay, "Speed of Sound"
Foo Fighters, "Best of You"
Green Day, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"
Gwen Stefani, "What You Waiting For?"
Jennifer Lopez, "Get Right"
Simple Plan, "Untitled"

i wonder how simple plan ended up here? do u have some ideas? i love untitled, but the vid didnt do justice to the song. and yet it managed to have a nomination in the EDITING category. jen is up for this one with gwen.

prediction - jen or gwen only. but green day can run away with this one.

Billboards and WMA matter as much as Blockbuster awards, meaning "not at all". A VMA is a pretty decent award to win.

You know, she can't just snap her fingers and win a Grammy, lol. She has to make critically acclaimed music and critically acclaimed movies before she'll win an Oscar or a Grammy. Please don't be so naive.
