A rough translation:
-They asked Jen about Marc and Beckham. They said, "Don't tell me Beckham loves salsa?" And Jen said, not yet, but we'll fix that when they move to LA!". -Jen said she doesn't discuss politics because she doesn't think people should believe her opinions just because of who she is. She has her opinions, but she keeps them private. She's simply an actress and a singer, so her opinion shouldn't be that important. Sometimes, politics comes up in her movies, and that's how you'd see it. -They asked her about a book and said Bordertown followed the general theme of the book with the difference being that her character would be a lesbian (? I think that's what that word means?). Jen replied that she'd never heard of it and Bordertown is completely original. Also, that new aspect would've taken away from what was important in the movie. [Note by me: What a stupid question. ]
El Pais: Do you have any theories on what occured there? Jen: I don't think one specific group did it. Corruption creates impunity. Bad people end up there, and they know that they will not be punished, so bad things continue to happen.
El Pais: Did you film in the City of Juarez? Jen: We aren't crazy. They told us it would've been too dangerous. We filmed in Nogales and then Albuquerque, New Mexico.
48 hours later, they booed Bordertown in Berlin. Perhaps, she'll have better luck with El Cantante. Another Lavoe movie is also coming out, coincidentally. It's called The Singer. Jennifer denies knowing anything about this movie. She said that his widow, Nilda, said Jen was the only person who could play her. Sadly, she died in an accident, so she couldn't see the film. She said Nilda sent her a script, and though it wasn't professional because it was written by one of his friends, she started looking into it and started getting excited about it. She imagined Marc in the part, and they went from there.
Jen: I didn't pick Marc because of our relationship. I saw him acting on Broadway, in The Capeman, and I knew he could do bigger parts. It's been a labor of love. Marc has sung Hector's songs and they sound great.
El Pais: Hector isn't a typical hero. He was sick, suicidal, and addicted to drugs. Jen: A lot of people have said that in these past five years. But he made such a difference to the music world and was so important.
El Pais: Why was he so special? Jen: He was a great improvisor. No one could match him. He was quick and always ready. Like Marc! He left his simple life in PR to struggle in NY. People identified with him, so they forgave his faults.
.....Same old stuff about the movie
El Pais: Is it true that Hollywood told you that your career would suffer if you continued your relationship with "dangerous people" [AKA Puffy]? Jen: No, they all supported me. Accusing me of having a gun is absurd. The NYPD was looking for publicity, so they used my name. It was hard for me and my family. They didn't like knowing that I was in a club where people had guns, but I didn't know it either!
El Pais: And your break-up with Puffy? Jen: It was fine. He knows how to have fun. He's smart, charismatic, knows everyone, and has the best parties. I knew I wasn't the love of his life. While we were together, he still had a relationship with Kim. In the end, he ended up with her. [Note by me: She's being civil, because that's BS, lol. If it were true, he wouldn't have kept talking about Jen and making songs about her.]
They asked her about "Dear Ben". She said, let's just say it's no longer part of my reportoire.
She said that according to her calculations, she's had about 12 kids according to the press. She likes to think that they keep saying she's preganant because people identify pregnancy with happiness, so they just want her to be happy...or fat. She's thought a lot about adoption because of her move, Love & other Impossible Pursuits.
She mentions that for a while, she distanced herself from Catholicism and her faith, but she's a practicing Catholic now. It's very important to her because it's helped her through the hardest parts of her life. She reads the Bible every day and finds reciting the rosary to be therapeutic.
They asked her about santeria and Ojani. {Me again: These people have balls, lol}She said Ojani is full of crap and he makes things up to make money. She said he took a lot of her money when they divorced. She does not believe in witchcraft {I guess that's a loose translation for brujeria}.
As far as diva rumors and the What's Going On rumors, Jen says that it's more interesting to make stuff up than report the truth. She said that she doesn't request any of that stuff. It's likely her people who do it because they know what she likes and want her to feel comfortable. In reality, she likes colored flowers just as much as white ones.It isn't a sign of power. You use your power to negotiate how much money you get and what percentage you get, but then, it's work. She doesn't need to fight for respect, thanks to her position.
They asked her about being the most powerful/richest Hispanic. She said she takes all that with a grain of salt because when you're in the public eye, the same mags that trash you, love you. All that matters is how much money your last film makes. When she tried to get El Cantante distributed, the negotiations were really tough.
She said she's working on Bridge & Tunnel, a comedy, soon.
-As far as CAUM, Jen says that same stuff. Also, she loves those sli-tyour-wrist, failed love, love songs. {My personal favorite }She says she loves La Lupe.
-English album: A mix of pop, R&B, dance, and funk.
Phew! That took forever. It's not word for word, but good enough, I think. I switched up the format a few times. Sorry! I got bored, lol. Anyway, enjoy!
