NBC and FOX are going full bore against each other to bring "American Idol" back.
We're told both networks have submitted bids to FremantleMedia -- which owns the show -- and a decision could come as early as this week.
Multiple sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... NBC wants the show in part to resolve a problem with "The Voice." We're told the network doesn't want to oversaturate the market with the show, which airs twice a year. We're also told Adam Levine only wants to do 1 cycle a year.
If NBC gets 'Idol,' it would rotate 'A.I.' with "The Voice" and each would air once a year.
We're also told NBC has Ryan Seacrest as the favored host the second time around, and FOX would also entertain bringing Ryan back.
Our sources say the target date for bringing 'Idol' back is either Summer 2018 or mid-season 2019.
FOX never gave up on the show ... it just became way too expensive to produce with the talent costs ... Ryan, J Lo, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. The reboot, we're told, would have a new panel of judges.
We'll see!

General Hospital (GH) spoilers report that Emmy nominated Carolyn Hennesy (Diane) gave a feisty and entertaining interview with She Knows and CDL has the inside scoop. Carolyn Hennesy’s most entertaining and outrageous comments are related to her dating advice to Jennifer Lopez regarding her relationship with Alex Rodriguez.
Hennesy stated, “Honey, stop jumping from man to man. You are not a flea going from dog to dog. Take some time and give yourself a year at a nice spa with a good therapist — reflect and revamp your whole way of doing things.”
“I think daytime TV is doing remarkably well. I think they’re starting to explore LGBT issues, women of a certain age with great friendship issues, cougar issues and why it’s not wrong — I think they’re making the women smarter. Women are doing great!”
Interesting contradiction here for Hennesy – on the one hand she slut-shames Jennifer Lopez with her ‘flea going from dog to dog’ nasty remark but then says it’s cool for a woman to be a cougar. Do you agree with Hennesy’s advice for Jennifer Lopez or do you think Hennesy was using the super star to get attention for herself? Does super successful super star Jennifer Lopez need Carolyn Hennesy’s advice on how to conduct her personal life? Share your comments below and check back with

Ralph Fiennes Dubs His Movie Maid In Manhattan 'Excessively Commercial'
Ralph Fiennes has criticised movies like his hit romcom Maid in Manhattan for being "designed to sell".
The Schindler’s List actor may have lost a friend in his 2002 co-star Jennifer Lopez as he offered up the movie from his past as a prime example of a film solely designed to "make money" during a panel discussion at a School of Life event in Westminster, London.
"It’s exciting to see a film for a new director, new performers and actors: there’s hope there," he explained to the audience in the British capital. "Especially when it goes against the aggressive trend of the excessively commercial thing that is designed to sell, to make money. I think those forces are probably necessary. I mean, I embraced them, look at Maid in Manhattan."
In the romantic comedy the twice Oscar nominated actor, who is best known for his role in the Harry Potter franchise as Lord Voldemort, played an American senatorial candidate who falls for a beautiful hotel maid, played by singer and actress Jennifer, after mistaking her for a socialite.
Later, when the 54-year-old was asked what his most challenging role to date was, the star of award-winning movies The English Patient and The Constant Gardener joked, "It was Maid in Manhattan."
Fiennes hasn't always been so down on the hit movie, which netted $150 million (£120 million) at the box office worldwide. In a 2012 interview he praised co-star Jennifer, calling her "terribly good", while admitting the light-hearted fare wasn't his strong point.
"People would say, 'When are you going to play something light-hearted? You always play dark, serious types or bad guys.' Then Maid in Manhattan came along," he told Details magazine. "I enjoyed making it and have huge respect for J.Lo, who was, I think, terribly good in it. But that sort of light comic thing is probably not my strength."

Well not really gap but like the roundness teeth tend to turn when the enalmel starts wearing down. It seems more squared off now. AMERICAN IDOL RETURNS ?
Viewers have only just waved goodbye to ‘American Idol,’ but it appears they’ll be saying hello (again) very soon.
Full story below…
News hit the wire early this year that the production company behind the talent show were shopping a reboot.
And, as is customary in showbiz, things are moving at lightening speed.
Per TMZ, both NBC and FOX are in a fierce bidding war to air the new incarnation of ‘Idol.
Given that it just wrapped last year, what’s the incentive?
According to the report, Idol would solve a pressing issue for NBC and their own singing competition ‘The Voice.’
Currently airing two cycles a year, there’s the internal feeling that they are over-saturating the market. What’s more, key judge Adam Levine – who has appeared on every single season since 2011 – is said to want to only do one per year moving forward.
Perhaps most interesting, though, is FOX’s rationale.
Having aired the original Idol for 15 seasons, insiders say the only reason they allowed it to bow out was because of the increasingly colossal cost attached to the judging panel (i.e the likes of Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and J.Lo).
Word now is that any such revival wouldn’t feature previous panelists. Put simply, an altogether less expensive cast would be assembled.
*************
For us, we’d much prefer all this effort went into conceiving a new format for a new show.
But the reality is that even if Idol returns with a smaller audience, it’s a sizeable franchise that has produced stars still active and relevant today. All of which points to it being a safer bet for execs.
That said, would you be here for the return of ‘American Idol’?

Reese said that there have been conversations about extending the series, but with Jen's schedule even if she was offered a part she probably wouldn't be able to do it. :(nixy1991 wrote:Oh wow. sure she should. Watching the video seem like she was kinda joking around, it's her daughter that asked her "When will you act with Jlo?" and Then she say I don't know if people know but I'm a big fan, when I met her I told her "I love you" then she turns to Laura Dern and say maybe she should be in BLL2, how great would that be? now I'm excited.nixy1991 wrote:If I was her, I'd drop everything. lol When else would she get an opportunity to work with all these actors?daisylo wrote:Reese said that there have been conversations about extending the series, but with Jen's schedule even if she was offered a part she probably wouldn't be able to do it. :(nixy1991 wrote:Oh wow.
