I agree with most of this, though I would add that I really like some of the songs on Love? and AKA. I don't care if they weren't singles or hits. :smile:Wellyver wrote:

She may have several projects going here and there. Some of them are decent, but that is it at best. How can all the facts above mentioned be any good for you? Why can't you just see the choices she made yesterday are impacting today? Is this the maximum Jennifer can reach? Can we all agree that she is talented but needs to watch out carefully what she does? Almost everything that she did during the past years are mediocre and this forum is not all about being a fan and praise her for whatever she does. If you really cared about her you should not be praising everything just to call yourself a true fan.
By the way: Things I liked about her during the last years.
* World Tour
* First American Idol Season
* Lila and Eve (Seems promising)
* Shades Of Blue (Seems promising)
* The Fosters
* OTF/Dance Again
* She also improved as a Performer
And I don't even think this is even the best she can deliver (wait, this is a compliment, actually!) Now the list of mediocre (I really meant that) are probably 10 times bigger and the critics and general public agrees. Nobody comes here to criticize for no reason, we say this because we care. If you don't feel comfortable with this thread you should open your own wonderland thread and let us discuss this peacefully as we were doing.

I'll add that for someone like her critical acclaim is actually really doable. Her career in the last ten years have been about mass market commercial formulas, like Monster in law where she played a cute hippie who is charming and clumsily goofy. Nobody hates her for doing it, but you have to be someone who really loves her on-screen person to say it's something that is memorable. Other than that, to most people, who know that she's getting paid millions to do really commercial, forgettable, uninspired stuff that doesn't connect on an emotional level with people......then she's just doing it for the money
For most people who actually pay attention to what's going on in music and film, Monster in Law, The back up plan, Dance Again, Live it up: these were commercial, formula based choices that are not new or special
The problem with AKA has been critical failure AND mass rejection of the public. the public couldn't respond to ILYP or First Love, because they're filler and not good single choices. Were there any strong singles on AKA? Booty and Girls are the closest to it, girls is great, but booty is not as well composed.....she needed better songs period
I don't know how you people expect a fanbase to take you seriously and have an interesting discussion with posts like these. I mean the levels of delusion and trolling are a marvel to behold in here... #MADNESS

You want people to respond to you without "unnecessary attacks" when you responded with this:
There are highs and lows to every career. No one will remain on top forever. Jennifer has achieved so much and blazed so many trails that pop stars are still walking today. You guys don't give her enough credit, which is frustrating.
Critical acclaim is only one measure of success. Do we want her work to be loved by critics? Of course. But it's not required to have a long and successful career. It sucks that she isn't recognized, when we know some of her work should have been nominated for Grammy's especially considering some of her peers that have more recent nominations.
Saying she is not respected by the general public is a huge assumption that I think is false. She is well-liked and respected, given her endorsement opportunities AND how Idol courted to get her back on the show. All of that is measured and researched before someone is hired.
AKA obviously was not as successful as she hoped, but you could tell she was really working hard on it and wanted it to be something special. She released several different songs, 6 music videos, 3 singles, a free concert, etc. etc. She focused and worked her butt off for AKA.
With her music, when she was doing dance, she needed to be making urban music, per BBers. When she made urban, it wasn't the right urban. We know she just needs the right song to click, so they need to figure out what sound people want to hear from her. For whatever reason, there is a disconnect between the buying public and her movies and music. They need to figure out why that is and fix it.
With her movies, she hasn't been too active on that front. It's hard to judge there because Parker was more of a typical Jason Statham action movie and WTEWYE was an ensemble movie. You can't really say they were vehicles for her that underperformed. I think she initially had a different idea of what Parker was supposed to be vs what it ended up being, which sucks for her.
She has Lila & Eve and TBND coming up, so hopefully we can have critical and commercial success, for those respectively. She also has Shades of Blue, which could be a really good move for her. So many actors are making their way to TV these days- Viola Davis, Halle Berry, Robin Williams, Matt McConaughey, etc. The movie industry is ROUGH. They just aren't making that many "regular" movies anymore. It's either a tiny movie or The Avengers 10.
To those of you acting like prudes re: the Booty video, come on, lol. It's not my cup of tea, but let's not pretend that Jennifer doesn't have sexy videos, performances, and outfits. Jennifer has always pushed the envelope there. She has managed to almost always keep it classy.
There's still so much to look forward to, so I can't with people saying her career is done. It's utterly ridiculous. If that's how you feel or if you are longing for Jennifer from over a decade ago, just let it go. Obviously you've gone in separate directions, and she's not doing it for you anymore.

It was such an interesting discussion till the real drama queens arrived and messed up the thread criticizing other fans instead analyzing JLo's future. The fact that you kiss her ass daily no matter how big her mistakes are doesn't make you a better or bigger fan. It must be very hard to admit that her career ain't over yet due to her endorsements and not because of her talent. Once you realize she has being doing almost everything wrong during the past 10 years you will understand that "tomorrow" things can be even worse. Is it so hard to understand the reason of why her music and movie career declined drastically? People like some of you are probably working to her and not being realistic or professional, but delusional supporting her mistakes.
U should do your own thread praising her and go back to your wonderland, 'cause things in real life aren't that pretty and most of us were just being real.

OK! some fans try to pretend they are here for sales, awards and critical acclaim forever and ever, really not for JLO,that said all.... simply pressure to follow the best possible artist to the mainstream's eyes and their egos?? or simply trolling , MY GOD...
even they can afford to say poor things, to agree & defend people that someone of them this days are calling her old, Kardashian, asking her to retire, without career, attention whore...and all of this because Booty video, a selfie in instagram and the poor sales of one album... INSANE, they are in a JLo site, not in ATRL...pls logout!
Today who artist is overselling the music industry?? anyone, we must go back years to check Adele impact & her 30 millions albums sold ..but really this days??
today the most succesful One direction with 5 millions albums and having most of the tens girls in their pockets...
most of them are new blood, the great advantage to sell but where will be they after 15 years??? JLo is here alive in this hard world of the music and her talent intact! deal with it, if you are a fan, a true fan or a simple user...
I think we should be envious of any fan base out there, even so many artist who have never achieved a TOP18 in billboard in their lifes,or one hit wonders,or with careers under 2 years with far less archived than JLo , even they dont have this kind of haters but really its good signal because JLo have all they pressed to login here and attack JLo or her fans in every post and then try to look like victims! :argh
And pls admins do check for all the duplicate acounts that always appear at the same time to troll, but sadly they will use proxy and hidden IPs for sure..

@tajegu: I never said that I didn't like what she's been doing for the past few years. In fact, I pointed out that I really like a lot of the stuff that she's been doing. I would just like to see her gain more commercial and critical success and this thread is intended to allow people to say what they think she could do to attain those things. I could spend all day pointing out the irony in you labelling me a "psychopath" in your borderline incoherent posts, but I don't have time and it probably wouldn't matter. So I'll just say "good luck to you" :hug
@JenRox: I was hoping you'd chime in as I was curious about your thoughts. To be clear, I think Jen has done amazing things and is an icon bordering on legend. I'm not bashing the stuff that she's done. She will always be remembered based on what she's accomplished in her career so far. But she's in her mid-40s and commercial and critical success have been alluding her for years. It's time for a new game plan and I think she should scale back on music and the business stuff (except for producing) and focus on getting some great acting roles and working with good people. Easier said than done, but that's what I hope for. She needs critical success right now. Look at how Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock have turned their acting careers around. This is what I hope for Jen.

I agree with SC88.
She is better than the Booty video.
I am not a fan Jennifer Lopez the attention seeker/the brand.
I am a fan of Jennifer Lopez the entertainer/artist.
Jen is 45. She should act her age. Those selfies on Instagram are annoying. It has nothing to do with ageism or discrimination. If Jen wants to be seen as a serious actress, she should act like one (and act in better movies). :coffee
I don't mind her doing American Idol, but I've always said that she should also focus on movies and GOOD music.

How can we talk seriously as fans when people in here value their supposed idol based on numbers, charts and golden statues?! We are FANS for crying out loud not bureaucratic managers ffs!

JenRox regarding the post you highlighting a comment I made if you read the second page again you will realize it was much more defensive than an attack. Nobody was cursing other fans and calling them "idiot" till some people arrived and messed up the concept of the thread. I know I'm very rude sometimes, it's something that I am working on, but i don't take this kind of discussion personal and it's never my intention to seem like that, but anyway...
You seem a very genuine person, but sorry. I can't take what you said that seriously. I think it became part of your job here to praise all that Jennifer does - That's how you're known for! And no shade, I've acted like the way you do before. For sure nobody will remain on the Top forever, but like a few months ago we discussed about Sandra, Matthew and their effort to be taken seriously. And they did it: What were Jennifer actions to be taken seriously as an actor during the last years? I can only picture Lila & Eve and we don't even know much about it. During the past years she focused on her endorsements and Idol. We had this conversation before, if she never focus on what really matters she can't get any glory.
What You said about Jennifer in Parker is not accurate. She knew her role would not be big and she knew it would be a typical Jason Stathan, that's why there are talks and scripts. She was not forced to do that. No excuse this time... But you know? I don't blame that movie at all. She is an actress first (Even though now she says she is a singer first), go act, go look for roles. If she had had good acting's lately for sure she would get that dreamed role in Cocaine Cowboys but who would give her a big role like that if she wasn't even acting or doing serious movies?
When you say "Critical acclaim is only one measure of success" this is not truth. Jennifer never had critical acclaim not even when she was on the top. And nobody can say that the critics hate her. C'mon have they been hating her since forever? Is Mariah paying them to hate her? There are so many artists that have one but don't have the other.
When I say she is not respected or taken seriously by the General Public it's not that hard to see that. If there was a poll on the streets, at Rolling Stone Mag or even People Magazine asking if she was a real actor and a real singer you KNOW the answers. But there's one interesting thing about it - I believe that the GP likes her, there is something special about her persona that overshadows her works. They may "like" her due to her looks, career (as a whole), sex appeal, origins, etc, but do they respect her as a singer or actor? hummmm...
And again about the Booty video... Jenrox, Only this time say what you really thought... "I'm Glad" is sexy, "I'm Into You" is sexy.... "Booty" unfortunately was almost a soft porn. Jennifer knows how to be sexy and classy like any other pop girl and that was too much for most people.
I'm not discussing about AKA 'cause i will give you reasons to ban me forever, lol. My disappointment for that album teared me apart in 1000 pieces..

While I understand the "Attention seeker" title, and you should dislike it as much as you want, but I disagree about the "Act your age", "Annoying selfies" part.J wrote:I agree with SC88.
You are the owner of your body, what you do with it is just your business. The fact that she is 45 doesn't mean she can't express herself whenever and however she wants. She pays her own bills, no one is paying it for her. She makes her own money and that gives the right to do and act the way she wants, as long as she is not hurting someone else. The selfies are harmless, Booty video is harmless. Yes, she is desperate for attention, like Miley Cyrus were on Wrecking ball, and you can criticize it if you like, but it has nothing to do with her age.
It does have to do with age.Jamie_J wrote:Yes, she is desperate for attention, like Miley Cyrus were on Wrecking ball, and you can criticize it if you like, but it has nothing to do with her age.
When my 16-year old cousin posts selfies on Facebook all the time -> cute.
When my 45-year aunt (divorced, mother of two) posts selfies on Facebook all the time -> annoying.
I bet your aunt (divorced, mother of two) is not as pretty as JLoJ wrote:It does have to do with age.Jamie_J wrote:Yes, she is desperate for attention, like Miley Cyrus were on Wrecking ball, and you can criticize it if you like, but it has nothing to do with her age.

The selfies are welcome, since when pictures are made for 16 years old?
Guess I missed that information on the smartphone boxes?
I guess an Icon Award, AMAs, World Icon Award at Premios, PLATINUM/GOLD hits, working with the best producers/artists etc in the business, delivering many LEGENDARY videos, AMAZING songs, featurings on HIT songs (FTL, Adrenalina, WAO), getting Vevo certified 5-6 times, RULING Youtube, being THE BEST performer in the world, SLAYING stage after stage after stage and still getting Top20 hits on charts and on radio even at her lowest isn't enough for some... also working with Taylor Hackford and John J.McLaughlin isn't important for an actor?! Managing to get a No1 at Box Office, 80+ million and a slayage of store/digital sales with a basic romantic comedy isn't good enough commercially? Working with LEGENDARY actors isn't important?! Trying different things and experimenting with your craft isn't important?! Critics used to love her before Jen became a pop star... her acting didn't change their attitude did. They are biased towards her pop icon persona and that's their problem not Jen's... they are almost punishing her for wanting it all...
Also if Bey did "Booty" instead of Jen then certain people in here would be all over it, praising her and shit... like they did for "Partition" for example...
Every post just reeks of double standards and pressed efforts to bring Jen down... SMDH :coffee

By the way, J
You are one to keep saying radios are ageist and don't wanna play a 40-year old woman's song
Like that's not enough you wanna forbid them to post selfies too? LOL
Guess people should die at 39, since they can't do what they want after that?
