In the April issue of InStyle, available on newsstands and for digital download today, Jennifer Lopez, the triple threat and mother of two, tells us that when it comes to clothes, “relaxed sexy is best,” adding how a pair of worn-out boyfriend jeans that hang below the hip are her favorite. This mantra rang true for the 44-year-old on the day of her cover shoot, as the American Idol judge showed up to the set in black leggings and an oversize cardigan from her popular Kohl’s line, paired with calf-hair Giuseppe Zanotti sneakers featuring more than 1,000 Swarovski crystals on the straps—a look that can certainly be defined as “relaxed sexy.”
While at the shoot, Lopez took it up a notch from her everyday wear, sizzling in designs by Chanel, Reem Acra, Gucci, Lanvin, and more. The set at Quixote Studios in West Hollywood was just as hot, given we filled the room with succulents like cactus flower to help create the feeling of summer. Music was definitely a top priority at the shoot, as Lopez danced to rap and R&B songs by Big Sean and Miguel—though she really started grooving when Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind” played, giving our on-site DJs a thumbs-up.
We even got a peek at raw footage from her music video for “Same Girl,” which was shot where Lopez grew up in the Bronx. “I had always pictured the video being back in the old neighborhood,” Lopez says. “It’s funny when people say ‘Jenny from the Block isn’t real’ or ‘You’ve already done that.’ I keep doing it because that’s who I am! I love where I grew up, and it’s such a part of who I am.”
