Q'Viva! React: JLo and Marc Anthony reunited and it feels so good?

by April Daley

Take 3 parts aerobatics, 8 parts dance, 9 parts singing, and 1 part speed drumming. Add Spanish, stir, and you have Jennifer Lopez and former husband Marc Anthony’s Fox show searching for the best Latin American talent search, Q’Viva! The Chosen. The series has been airing on Spanish-language TV in the U.S. and in 21 countries since January but made its first attempt at wooing English-speaking TV viewers last night.

For those of us who are Español-challenged, Q’Viva! is about 70 percent English. All the contestants and judges who speak in Spanish and Portuguese are subtitled and Lopez and Anthony’s segments are in English.

The two-hour premiere featured Lopez and Anthony’s trek through Latin American countries auditioning acts to win tickets to the L.A. round of the show. Once in L.A., contestants will audition again.

Auditions are knit together with documentary-like narration and moments where Lopez and Anthony meet up to share their discoveries and just generally exude chemistry. It’s not hard to believe the two are no longer married. They are “very Sonny and Cher” after their divorce, Lopez says as they drive through Puerto Rico.

“We were meant to be in people’s lives on different levels,” Antony says at one point. “Our marriage was one chapter. We got each other for life.”

Q’Viva is an entertaining fusion of reality television and international talent show that avoids all the usual pitfalls: hours of auditioning people who don’t make it, annoying contestants, ridiculous cliffhangers (Take note, Idol) and judges who spout useless criticism. In fact, most of the auditioners shown wind up making the cut for the next round. In the few minutes we get of these contestants’ backstories, they manage to make you care. You root for the Venezuelan dancer who had to give up her daughter when the father of her child and her family made her choose between motherhood and dancing. You root for the 19-year-old Chilean singer who uses music to escape after the death of his cocaine-addict father. There’s a genuine, heartwarming hope for a chance at the American dream. “I’m doing it because it’s never been done and it needs to be,” Lopez offers up as an explanation for leaving her home (and her kids) to audition acts throughout South America. I couldn’t agree more. Maybe we do have room for one more talent competition show.

Q’Viva! has a lot to overcome, particularly its time slot. Saturday isn’t exactly an ideal night to launch a new series. But Jennifer and Marc picked up at least one devoted viewer. I’ll be tuning in next weekend to see the talented singers — and to find out if JLo actually owns shirts that cover her midsection.

Are you are as smitten with Q’Viva! as I am? Smitten enough to tune in on a Saturday night?

It ends April 7 on Fox. On Univision it's around that time, too, but I'm not exactly sure.

Kohl’s Store Sizzles with Cast of ‘Q-VIVA,’ J. Lo, Marc Anthony

If you’re a loyal viewer of Univision or frequently find yourself watching copious amounts of FOX on Saturday nights, you’ve no doubt heard of the TV talent show, Q’Viva! The Chosen. If you’re not one of these people, here’s the deal: Separated celebrity couple Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, along with concert director Jamie King, travel to 21 different Latin American countries to find “The Chosen,” an undiscovered talent better than the rest. And, yes, having a recently split couple debate with each other on TV is exactly as awkward as you imagine it to be.
In addition to starring on the show, Lopez and Anthony also both recently released clothing lines at Kohl’s department stores, an obvious branding opportunity led by brand new digital agency, Mustache. Kohl’s gave Q’Viva! contestants a shopping spree at their Los Angeles store, where salsa dancers, singers and the like updated their own wardrobe as well as picked up some J. Lo and Marc Anthony branded clothing for their loved ones. Says Jeff Cambron, who started Mustache with some film production friends in January (he previously consulted for the Barbarian Group on projects like the “Ad Agency Bloodline” infographic), “Alongside last week’s announcement of an American Idol line in Kohl’s stores , this is yet another example of how Kohl’s is becoming a big part of the pop culture conversation.”
Say what you will, but I’d probably shop at Kohl’s a bit more if people were salsa dancing around the store. Learn more about this shopping sizzle here.

It was awesome how they all huddled together and said Aww QViva!
Wow Marc’s ticked. When he said it is important to him we know we get that it is also important to Jaime and Jennifer as well.
Smaller voice and bigger voice came up.

Jennifer Lopez And Marc Anthony Share One Last Surprise On 'Q'Viva! The Chosen' Finale

It was the grand finale of "Q'Viva! The Chosen" (Sat., 11 p.m. ET
on Fox) and Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Jamie King couldn't
have been more proud of the group they'd gathered to represent
Latin culture to the popular world via their big stage production
at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The show has been divided into five categories: Latin culture,
passion, pride, ritual and unity. And in this finale, the remaining
contestants had their last chance to impress the judges and show
that they belong in one of those categories, and on that stage
representing their passion and their country.

It was a tense elimination, quickly replaced by relief and excitement
as the cuts were very small and the focus turned to the May 26
premiere. And for that, Lopez and Anthony had a surprise for the cast.

"We've decided that for opening weekend here at the Mandalay Bay, Marc
and I are going to be in the show with you guys presenting you to the
entire world," Lopez told the assembled performers. "It is our pleasure
and our honor."

The couple may be going their separate ways in their real life, but
this show is a testament to their shared vision, and their passion
and commitment to their Latin roots.

The television series may be over, but "Q'Viva! The Chosen" will go
on as a live stage show, beginning May 26 at the Mandalay Bay in Las
Vegas.

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most
interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and
delivers them right to your browser.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony to take the stage together

by Joann Vaglica / 4/5/2012

Former couple Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony will perform
together in Las Vegas for their joint show, Q'Viva! The Chosen.

It's too bad Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are not considering
a reconciliation off-stage, but we know the famous exes can
get together professionally to hit the stage for their fans.

The "Dance Again" singer and her Latin estranged husband will put
on a performance on May 26, which will be incorporated into Q'Viva!
The Chosen Live.

During the one-night concert, the talent search program's top
performers will also take center stage.

"It's a very unique, modern way, and sexy way, to package these
traditional talents. I'm really, really looking forward to the live
show," Anthony told the Huffington Post.

E! News is also reporting the former couple plan on going further
with future plans involving the show.

"Absolutely. We're in the middle of setting it up now," he said.
"This is a passion project...I'm looking forward to doing it again.
It's bigger than all of us. It's a movement."

News of JLO and Anthony working together comes with a wave of shock
whenever such information is announced, but Anthony just can't seem
to understand why, as he thinks it's "natural."

He says, "I know it's shocking to people and I hear that a lot. It's more
shocking to me that it's shocking to people."

He just doesn't understand the power-couple they once were I guess!

The outcome of Q'Viva! The Chosen has left him impressed, to say the
least, with all cultural diversities bonding and differences left aside.

"I thought that bringing all of these artists together in one house
would have been a little more dynamic by way of conflict," he
admitted. "That's one thing that absolutely blew me away, the way
they became one nation. And that's how they would put it – `We're one
nation, all of us.'"

We are proud of the former couple for working professionally together
after their marriage went kaput in July 2011.
